Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026
Agreement to these terms
These terms govern your use of ShelfAware (the website at shelfaware.ca and the ShelfAware browser extension), operated as an independent, single-person project. By using ShelfAware, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
What ShelfAware is
ShelfAware is a free tool that checks real-time prices and in-store stock at participating Canadian retailers, keeps a price history for products you look up, and can email you when a price drops to a target you set. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any retailer it tracks.
Accuracy of prices and stock
- Prices and stock levels shown on ShelfAware are pulled directly from each retailer's own systems, but they are a snapshot in time and can change within minutes. A store's actual price or stock at checkout may differ from what ShelfAware last saw.
- ShelfAware makes no guarantee that a price will match what a store or its website charges at the time of your visit, or that an item shown "in stock" is still on the shelf (see "ghost inventory" in our FAQ).
- Always confirm price and availability with the retailer, especially before making a trip for a high-demand item. ShelfAware is a research tool, not a purchase or reservation system. We don't sell anything, process payments, or hold items for you.
Accounts and price alerts
Searching prices and checking stock requires no account. Creating an account (to set price drop alerts) requires a valid email address. You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for the accuracy of the alerts you configure. We may disable an account we reasonably believe is being used to abuse the alert system (for example, scripted mass account creation).
Affiliate links and sponsored content
ShelfAware participates in retailer affiliate programs. Some outbound links to retailer product pages are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you make a purchase after clicking through, at no extra cost to you. This never affects which prices or stock results are shown; affiliate relationships play no role in ranking or filtering results.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, systematically harvest, or resell ShelfAware's data or API responses.
- Attempt to disrupt the service: sending an abnormal volume of requests, or probing for vulnerabilities outside of good-faith, non-destructive security research.
- Use ShelfAware for any unlawful purpose or in a way that infringes another party's rights.
- Misrepresent your identity to create multiple accounts for the purpose of evading limits.
We reserve the right to suspend access for anyone who violates these terms.
Third-party retailer sites
Clicking through to buy a product takes you to the retailer's own website, which has its own terms, pricing, and policies that ShelfAware doesn't control. Any purchase, return, or dispute is between you and that retailer.
No warranty
ShelfAware is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. As a project run by one person, occasional downtime, delayed price updates, or bugs are possible. We fix what we find, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ShelfAware isn't liable for any loss arising from reliance on prices, stock levels, or alerts shown on the site. That includes a wasted trip to a store, a missed sale, or a purchase made at a price that turned out to be different from what was displayed.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as ShelfAware adds features or retailers. Material changes will update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use ShelfAware after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable within it, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
