Store prices and stock don't match what's online, they vary from location to location, and clearance items are basically invisible until you're standing in front of the shelf. There was no easy way to check any of that from home, so I built one.

ShelfAware is a Canadian shopping assistant that pulls live prices and in-store stock from Canadian Tire, Best Buy, Walmart, Home Depot, Princess Auto, Canada Computers, Visions, Home Hardware, and IKEA. Search a product, it checks the stores near you, and you get an answer instead of a guessing game.

It also remembers what things used to cost, which is honestly the more useful part. Retailers are pretty liberal with the word "sale," and having a couple months of price history makes it obvious when a discount is real versus when the price just got bumped up the week before so it could get marked back down.

There's no team behind this, no office, just me fixing things as I find them, usually late at night after a retailer quietly changes their website and breaks something. It's rough in places. Some stores aren't covered yet, some prices lag by a few minutes, and I'm sure something is broken right now that I don't know about. If you find it, tell me — I read every email myself.
