The ShelfAware Chrome Extension: A Full Walkthrough
How the free ShelfAware Chrome extension checks nearby price and stock from a retailer's own product page, what it reads, and when to use it instead of the website.
The ShelfAware website starts from a search: you paste in a product link. The Chrome extension starts from the page you're already on. If most of your shopping begins on a retailer's own site, it saves the copy-and-paste step every time.
Setting it up
Install it from the Chrome Web Store, then click the extension icon once on any supported retailer's site to set your location. Your postal code is kept locally in your browser for up to 24 hours, so you're asked again after that window, not on every page.
Using it while you browse
On a product page, click the icon. A small overlay opens with the same live store-by-store price and stock you'd get on the full site, for the exact product you're looking at.
When you need more, like the full price history or a price alert, pick a result and it opens shelfaware.ca with the retailer, product, and location already filled in. Nothing has to be typed twice.
What it reads, and what it doesn't
The extension only acts on the product page you're currently viewing. It doesn't track your browsing history or send it anywhere.
Extension or website?
Use the extension when you're already on a retailer's site and want a quick answer about stock and price nearby. Use the website for comparing across retailers, reading a price chart, setting alerts, and browsing the clearance feed. Both are free, and checking a price doesn't need an account.
