Category isn't the whole story
None of these categories are profitable by default. The category just describes where clearance discounts and resale demand tend to line up often enough to be worth watching. The actual margin on any specific item still depends on the real buy price at a specific store right now, compared against its own price history and current resale value.
1. Sealed LEGO sets
Retired sets hold or gain value predictably, and clearance/discontinued-set markdowns at big-box retailers are a well-known entry point, as long as the set is confirmed retired, not just temporarily out of stock.
2. Small kitchen appliances
High turnover, frequent seasonal clearance cycles (especially post-holiday), and consistent resale demand. Margins are thin, though, so the buy price has to be genuinely low, not just discounted-looking.
