Home Depot Canada Clearance: Where the Markdowns Hide

Marked-down stock stays in its usual spot with a yellow tag. Look up as well. The top stock shelves are where overstock gets put out of reach, and marked-down stock can end up there.

Seasonal departments turn over the most. Once patio furniture, barbecues, and outdoor power equipment stop selling at full price, they get marked down to make room for the next season rather than stored for next year. Special-buy items that didn't move get the same treatment.

Store managers have some say over clearance pricing on slow-moving or damaged stock. So one discontinued item can carry noticeably different prices at two stores a few kilometres apart, and a price a friend found at their Home Depot says very little about yours.

A narrow one means you may as well go to the closest store that has it.

Home Depot flags some store stock as limited: the store has the item, but not many. ShelfAware keeps that as Limited instead of folding it into In Stock, and shows a unit count whenever Home Depot provides one. On a clearance item, Limited tells you the shelf is close to empty. Look at the price history first. A discontinued item's clearance price only means something next to what it actually sold for, not next to the list price on the tag. If you're not ready to buy, set an alert instead. Seasonal stock often gets marked down again as it ages, and an alert catches the next cut without you walking the garden centre every week.
